blogging hits puberty

December 24th, 2008. Written by Josh

It’s been quite a while since my last post, I’ve been out and about researching and brushing up on buidling custom wordpress themes.  In the past few months Wordpress has been updated several times, new features have been added and is sporting an all new back end design.  I have noticed a lot of designers and bloggers are beginning to jump on this quite awesome platform.  With a growing community designers and developers, Wordpress technology used to manage content for forums(bbpress), Multi-User blogging(WordpressMU) which is useful for newspaper/magazine/callobartive sites.

As such, blogs are becoming much more intuitive and are beginning to shy away from the standard top-to-bottom design containing simple journal-type entries.  Wordpress blogs are becoming more like a personal portal that links visitors to not only a bloggers posts, but also to all other online social endeavors the blogger may choose partake in.

While working on a new Wordpress theme, I’ve compiled a list elements I will be incorporating, which in my opinion, seem to be the new standard elements found in most blogs.

  1. twitter stream is embedded in to blog design, along with links to follow, rss, and to twitter homepage
  2. flickr stream is added
  3. current music stream(pandora, lastfm, or custom albums)
  4. social links(digg,facebook,myspace,linkedin, etc)
  5. portfolio/resume is built in(for designers)
  6. asides, or small notes not worthy of a full post
  7. archive
  8. custom contact form
  9. rss feed links
  10. Tag cloud

**This list will grow/change as I begin development.
