Random Bb Tones

May 7th, 2009. Written by Josh

I love discovering new musical experiments online.  I’ve seen several of these experiments posted on several sites, youtube has a bunch.  Some months ago, I saw a guy develop a rat maze that some sensor built in each turn that would emit a tone in a certain key.  He then would let loose some rats to run around the maze.  While each rat to turns running through the maze, random melodies and tones, all in harmony would be heard.  Each time it would be a different experience.  It was an organic type of way to create new music.  The idea of the controlled chaos seem really interesting to me, in how a new experience, and a new discovery can occur with each use.

So I found this website, that pulls videos from youtube in the key of Bb.  The videos are not pulled at random,  which is not as cool as I would like, but then again there is currently no technology built into youtube that would allow to distinguish keys.  However, it would be pretty awesome if people on youtube, would join in on the experiment and tag their videos with musical key, eg. Bb, C#, and then pull all videos with those tags randomly, and then play them all.  Then it would random controlled chaos.

Peep it! http://www.inbflat.net/
