I’ve been listening to a bit of jazz and some motown stuff lately, which is weird considering my musical taste is mostly hard rock( Deftones, Secret and Whisper, Circa Survice, Tool..). I recently started listening to Amy Winehouse. I know she has been out for a long time now, but I just never really gave her a listen until a watched her performance in the video I posted. I love watching music performances and I attend several concerts every year. It has been a really long time since I have seen an artist as true to herself as Amy Winehouse. With the current digital downloads and piracy issues the music suits are really pushing hits and singles from artists. Despite the pressure from industry expectations, Amy continues to write music that reflects current issues in her life, at the risk of public opinion. ”Love is a losing game” was written for her ex-husband, Blake, which has been blamed for her drug addiction that is currently bringing her life to an end. Hopefully her musical career will inspire other artists to write and perform music that means something to them, and not just for the sake of fulfilling contracts. This teary performance shows off her interesting, honest, vocals. tight work.
